Pieces in In Grained highlight the symbolic co-relation between elements from the organic environment and an individuals internal status and development.  The dialogue formed between these elements, natural and figurative, is presented as a tool for contemplation, understanding and growth.  Materially, the use of wood canvas serves as a commentary upon the beauty of the growth  process that living organisms share.  This is accomplished through using the wood grain as the subjects skin.  The grain serves as a trees representation of growth in the same way wrinkles show age on human skin .  My intention is to perpetuate connections of man and nature by contemplating the cycles of the nature and how they are reflected in mans development.
